Oops late again-
Our daily Readers Workshop is running smoothly. Children are able to work in small groups while I work with my small focus groups. I am enjoying watching their reading skills emerge.
Artists/Writers Workshop has become a favorite part of everyone’s day. Through the use of art the children have learned to “read a picture” and become familiar with different kinds of writing. They can write to tell a story, write what they are thinking or write about a memory. The children are working hard to sound out their words-writing the sounds they hear. This is something you can reinforce at home rather than spelling words for them.
The Time Has Come! I can comfortably say that the children in Room 1 have made a smooth transition into Kindergarten and we can now welcome parents to join us in the classroom. There are several different ways that you can become involved. If you are thinking that you would like to come in and see what’s happening and get a feeling for the classroom community, Morning Meeting is a great time to come visit. We have Morning Meeting every day at 9:15 and it usually lasts for about 20 minutes. Let me know that you will be joining us and we will be sure to make room for you on the rug.
A second way that you can become involved is to volunteer during our daily writing/artists workshop or reader’s workshop. These workshops take place daily from 9:40-10:50.If you volunteer during these times I will put you to work! I have found it is most helpful if the parent volunteer joins a table of writers or readers and helps them to plan their stories, stretch their words, or help them use describing words, to name just a few ways.
Finally, you could become involved by sharing your special area of interest with the class. In the past, parents have shared interesting aspects of their profession, their culture or their hobbies (to name just few possibilities).
If you would like to speak to me about joining us on a regular basis or in a drop in basis please either email me or catch me at the end of the day either by phone (203-946-8611) or in person. I am usually at school until 4:00 pm
