It has only been day #14 but so much has happened. For starters during our morning meeting today several children were able to name all 26 of their friends. Pretty impressive! Shows we are building a community. We established our classroom rules together and came up with 3 rules.
Rule #1 Be Kind
Rule#2 Take care of our materials
Rule #3 Work and play safely
Pretty much covers everything! Don't you wish everyone lived by these 3 simple rules?
We explored graphing by graphing the number of boys and girls in our room. Graph data that the students generated were "If we had one more boy we would have the same amount". "There are more girls than boys". We could put them in pairs of two's with one left over." I was impressed with their thinking skills.
We have also had both a fire drill and a code red drill. Explaining a fire drill to kindergartners is straight forward. "We need to be safe outside the building if there is something unsafe inside the building-like a fire". A code red drill is a bit more difficult. I don't want to scare anyone by saying if there is a bad person inside the school etc. So I just tell the children sometimes there are times when there are dangerous things outside school (i.e. wind) and we need to be safe inside the school.
Reminder No School on Thursday or Friday next week.
Also, please be sure to send your e-rate form back. We must have 100% back in order to continue with free lunches.
I will end today's entry with a quote from Josephine that pretty much sums up things.
"Mrs. Donnery, I think there is magic in this room!" I do too- your children are all very magical!!
